Possibly related to the dragon of Crowcombe, this was a large wyrm - nicknamed the Gurt Vurm of Shervage Wood - which was over forty feet in girth.
It often ventured from the wood to devour livestock, and after several people had disappeared in the wood, no one would go near there.
Eventually a travelling woodsman came along, picking berries, and sat upon the creature mistaking it for a fallen tree.
The wyrm immediately set upon him, whereupon the woodsman cut up the creature with his axe.
