In a parallel to the legend of St George, the dragon which dwelt in Knuckler Hole near the churchyard of Lyminster only ate maidens.

Eventually, when there was only the Saxon King of Suffolk's daughter left, he offered her hand and half his kingdom to whoever could rid the land of the creature.

It was not long before a knight did indeed kill the dragon.

It is reputed that this knight's coffin, called Slayer's Stone, remains in the churchyard to this day.
