8th May - The Helston Flurry Dance takes place, where Helstonians take part in a pagan ritual processional dance through the town in a custom that pre-dates Christianity and probably dates back to Celtic times.
The dance takes place each eighth of May unless it falls on a Sunday or Monday and was probably originally a fertility or Spring festival.
8th May is also St Michaels Day, patron Saint of Helston and Cornwall.
There is also a fire breathing dragon legend associated with Helston.
According to the story it was seen flying over the town, clutching a ball of flames in its claws.
It then dropped the fireball outside Helston town.
It cooled to form a large rock which is still there to this day.
