Norton Fitzwarren

From All About Dragons
Jump to navigation Jump to search

When the Romans were expanding into Britain, there was a massacre of Britons by the Roman General Ostorius.

The bones were left piled up in Norton Camp and from these a dragon grew.

Over the centuries it grew larger until it was destroyed by one of the Fitzwarren family in medieval times.

This tale might be related to the one originating from Trull.

The story of the Dragon of Norton Camp is illustrated in the lowest frieze of the rood screen in the Church of All Saints.
